Althought the LC system can support an emergence of new kinds of science and technology as well, it cannot cover all types of information medias provided in LIS such as compact discs and cassettes. LIS has to adapt LC system to organize media other than textbooks and reference by adding a few codes to identify item types and copy ordering.

Periodicals
Periodicals in LIS are divided into 4 media types. They are
  • Journals
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers
  • Pamphlets
    LIT will classified by title alphabetically.

Cutter numbers begin with first letter of author name
and followed by the first letter of book title.

TIPS:
As well as different subjects, LIS has set up a color specific to different collections so that all reference materials are labeled with ‘red’ while ‘pink’ represents fiction.
